Big Math Book

This dry-erase, full-colour flip chart is designed to:

Student Edition (Grades 1-2)

Supports the instruction provided in the Teacher's Guide by providing opportunities for children to record their learning, practice, reinforce, and apply key concepts. Illustrations and contexts are designed to engage the primary student.
  • Math at Home, a tear-out, take-home magazine-style family connection with mathematical information, Canadian trivia, and games

          


  • My Journal invites students to use pictures, words, or numbers to show their learning

Teacher Guide (Print and CD-ROM)

In Print

A binder contains a 8 modules (1 for each unit) that provides comprehensive teaching, planning, and assessment notes.

For the Unit:
  • Mathematics Background discusses the big math ideas in the unit and how children will learn about them. Suggestions to support and make connections Across the Strands are provided. Curriculum across the Grades gives a guideline as to how the topic is addressed in the previous grade, the current grade and the next grade.
  • Curriculum Overview provides an overview of the general and specific outcomes for the Unit, with the corresponding Lessons and Activities clearly identified.
  • Planning for Instruction is a detailed planning chart for teachers with suggested time estimates, materials and additional support for each lesson.
  • Planning for Assessment provides guidelines to assess for, as, and of learning with a detailed chart highlighting the Purpose and Tools, Assessment Process, and Recording and Reporting support.
  • Unit Centres provide a choice of activities to support students’ learning that accommodates a range of student learning styles.
  • Reproducible Blackline Masters to support teaching and assessment.
