Highlights of the Third Edition:
Performance Tasks with Rubrics
Seven major Performance Tasks (plus an eighth in the Teacher's Manual) are provided to reinforce the students' knowledge of the accounting process. Activities within the projects require both group and individual work. They facilitate the development and assessment of skills, communication, application and problem solving.

Computer Accounting
Principles of Accounting, 3rd Edition, focuses on the computer as a principal accounting tool. Computer theory, exercises, and special projects in each chapter assist students to develop decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills. The power of the Internet can be accessed through the Web Extensions section in every chapter.

Computer activities range from general computer literacy questions to applications on general ledger, accounts receivable, and spreadsheet packages. Activities are to be completed both manually and on the computer, allowing the students to compare the two methods.

All activities are generic and can be used with whatever software packages are available. Descriptions of several widely used accounting software packages are found throughout the book (e.g. Simply Accounting and Quick Books).

The Teacher's Manual includes a CD ROM containing Microsoft Excel templates for each of the computer accounting exercises that involve spreadsheets. Also provided are general ledger charts of accounts prepared in Simply Accounting 7.0 for exercises that are completed using integrated accounting software.

Case Studies
Realistic case studies of both large and small companies are found in every chapter. These have been designed to develop students' critical thinking and decision-making skills. Students are encouraged to determine alternatives and decide which one best fits the situation at hand. Cases become longer and more involved as the students proceed through the accounting cycle.

Career Profiles and Activities
In each chapter, descriptions of various careers are provided. Students are given the opportunity to learn about the education, experience, and personal requirements for each job. Career education activities help students determine their strengths, interests, and aptitudes and to develop such personal skills as independent learning, communication, and problem solving.

Individualized Learning
Learning is a highly individualized process. The Principles of Accounting, 3rd Edition, package has been designed to facilitate independent student progress through the course.

The text contains thirty-seven individualized units of learning in its fifteen chapters. The Working Papers are correlated with these units to extend the scope of traditional workbooks. In addition to providing the necessary tools for the completion of the exercises, the Working Papers contain step-by-step instructions for the entire course. This makes it possible for students to proceed at their own pace.

Internet Study Guide
A new password protected interactive study aid is available on the internet. It includes chapter reviews, definition quizzes, multiple choice quizzes, true/false questions, and student activity extensions. Click here to view a sample chapter from the Internet Study Guide.

Test Manager
An electronic test and extra practice generation system is available on its own CD ROM. Teachers can choose from a database of extra questions to supplement those in the Student Edition and Study Guide or to create original tests. Tests and worksheets can be readily formatted and teachers can add their own questions to the database.
