Alice Barlow-Kedves
Alice is an English Department Head at Chemainus Secondary School on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She has her Bachelor of Education and her Master in Language Arts Education from the University of Victoria. She also taught pre-service teachers for two years and evaluated student teachers during final practical experiences. Alice has one daughter, Sarah Alisha.
Carrie Collins
Carrie has been an English, Drama, and Media teacher for ten years. She is currently the English Department Head at Hill Park Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario. She is also a part-time instructor of the English Honours Specialist course at Brock University. She is married to a Hamilton lawyer, and is the mother of two wonderful children.
Mary Crane
Originally from Kensington, PEI, Mary attended St. Thomas University, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. After teaching in Northern Quebec, completing an Honors Degree in History and English at the University of Guelph, and living in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Mary returned to Kensington to live in the family homestead built by her great-grandfather. After several years of freelance writing, Mary began teaching English and Social Studies full-time in the local High School. Besides writing and teaching, she organizes a summer chamber music festival and lives on a 40-acre hobby farm with her veterinarian husband.
Robert T. Dawe
Robert is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Education Degree, and a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Robert taught English in Newfoundland schools for 18 years. He has also worked as a program coordinator for Language Arts at the school district level. He has held positions as Assistant Superintendent (curriculum) and Program Specialist (high school) with large school boards serving the greater St. John's area. Robert lives in the community of Topsail with his wife Donna and children Peter and Penny.
Barbara Fullerton
Barbara is an English teacher at Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She has 15 years of teaching experience, primarily in Language Arts at the secondary level, and was involved in the development and implementation of the Atlantic Provinces' English Language Arts Curriculum for grades 3 and 4. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Acadia University, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education from University of New Brunswick. Barbara is married and is the mother of two daughters, Emma and Julia.
Karen Hume
Karen has been teaching for the Durham District School Board for the last 14 years. She is currently a teacher-librarian at Athabasca Public School in Oshawa, Ontario. Although she typically teaches all subjects (except French), Karen has a particular passion for Language Arts. She has a Master's degree in Curriculum and Teacher Development with a specialization in Language Learning. Karen has won an award from TVOntario for innovative use of technology in the classroom.
Amanda Joseph
Amanda, a Theatre Arts and English specialist, is presently teaching at Mount Pearl Senior High in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. She has worked in curriculum development over the past 16 years in Newfoundland and Labrador, and now nationally. This has involved piloting, reviewing, and authoring Language Arts anthologies, as well as verifying and creating standardized tests and in-servicing teachers and teacher-interns in these programmes. Amanda and her husband, Danny, and their daughter, Caitlin, live in St. John's, Newfoundland.
Brad Ledgerwood
Brad completed studies at the undergraduate and graduate level in History before he decided to become a teacher. He has been in the education field for ten years and has taught in all three divisions at the elementary level. Roles held outside the classroom include computer teacher and Interim Vice-Principal. He presently teaches in the Intermediate division at Bellwood Public School in Whitby, Ontario. When not preparing for his classroom, Brad enjoys spending time with his wife, Dorethy and his two sons, Liam and Mitchell.
Wendy Mathieu
Mathieu has been a teacher for the past twenty years, ranging from grade one to teacher education courses at the University of Alberta. She was also the curriculum coordinator and assistant principal at the junior high school level in the Edmonton Public School Board. She has a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education from the University of Alberta. She has experience working on the Western Canadian Protocol for Language Arts as well as various Alberta Learning projects. Her professional interests are currently focussed on technology in education and literacy in the information age.
Ian Mills
Ian was born in Hertfordshire, England. He has a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of Education from Durham University. He has taught in England, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. For over 20 years he was the English Department at Lester B. Pearson High School in Ottawa, Ontario. He was been involved in authoring five books. Ian has three children.
Thora O'Grady
Thora has been teaching in British Columbia schools for the last thirty years. She has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education (Admin). She is very interested in promoting professional development in the teaching of Language Arts and Drama.
Judy Onody
Judy is currently a Curriculum Resource Teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. She assists and in-services teachers and principals in 25 schools. In her 21 years in the classroom, Judy worked to deliver meaningful literacy experiences to her students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Her experience in the Intermediate classroom was the catalyst which
inspired her to get involved in the development of SightLines 8.
Robin Pearson
Robin has taught English and Drama for over twenty years and is currently the English Department Head at Bluevale Collegiate in Waterloo, Ontario. She is a graduate of Queen's University. Her enthusiasm about the challenges presented by the new curriculum is matched by her excitement for the pride teachers have in their profession. Robin is married and has three children.
Susan Tywoniuk
Susan has been teaching secondary Language Arts for 12 years and enjoys the candor and humour of her teenage students. Using SightLines and ResourceLines with her own students has been a career highlight. She is the mother of two pre-schoolers, Matthew and Megan, whose emerging literacies fuel her fascination for books, language, and learning.
