Organ Transplants: A Supply Crisis

Background

September 2001
Organ donors truly give the gift of life. In Canada, however, the rate of organ donation is only 15 per million people. This rate is far below most other countries. Far too many people are on the waiting list to receive organs and unfortunately a third of those in Canada will die waiting.

The government along with hospital transplant programs are looking at various ways to get more organs available in order to shorten those waiting lists.
