About the Authors
Darren Wershler-Henry is co-author of the bestselling Internet Directory 2000 and editor of Coach House Books. No stranger to the world of new media, Darren has been on the Internet long enough that he can remember when it was all ascii. He's worked as a new media consultant and researcher for several publishers and software companies, and has been a regular panelist on TVOntario's "Imprint". His writing has appeared in magazines and journals, including Books in Canada, boundary 2, Grain, Open Letter, and Sulfur.

Mark Surman has been helping others build online communities since the early days of the Web. He currently runs Commons Consulting, a firm focused on online strategy and project planning. Recent Commons projects have included product development workshops for community networks in 25 countries and online community vision documents for major government agencies. Mark also served as the Director of Content Services at Web Networks, a Canadian Internet service provider serving the voluntary sector.
