Chapter 10 Formal Reports-Internet Exercise

Write a formal report on a topic area that interests you. Use the Internet as the main source of research. For some excellent tips on how to get your project started, first read Chapter 14 "Technical Research." Please incorporate in your report the components and guidelines discussed in Chapter 10. The topic area should have the following characteristics:

• It solves a practical problem or answers a practical question
• It is narrow in scope
• It is easily researched
• It has a clearly defined audience

Here are some topic suggestions:

• Solve a problem you have observed in the workplace
• Solve the improper functioning of a mechanism
• Prevent the cost increase of an item or a service
• Alleviate parking problems at a specific site (school, shopping centre etc.)
• Find ways for an organization to make money
• Create or expand a new business
• Improve the course content in some of your programs
• Improve campus food services
• Establish a school-wide tutoring service
• Improve recreational facilities near the campus
• Improve facilities at a specific site for the physically challenged
• You may create your own topic, but first obtain approval from your instructor
