Chapter 8 Letters-Internet Exercise
Examine three company Web sites. Please complete the following questions about tone and letter writing:
- Indicate how well or poorly the Web sites use the "You" attitude on the screen to describe
their products or services.
- Indicate what happens (or doesn't happen) on the screen when the readers feel they are
being addressed personally.
- Pick a company from the three examples and write a formal letter to that company based on
ONE of the following four writing situations:
- Neutral letter - request more information about the company's products or services
- Positive letter - acknowledge your order has been received from the company, and
that the service was excellent
- Negative letter - indicate that you are unhappy with the last order you placed
with the company; the shipment was delayed and the merchandize was damaged
- Sales letter - indicate that you are impressed with the company and wish to seek
