Chapter 11 Proposals and Feasibility Studies-Internet Exercise

Write a short informal proposal or feasibility study (five pages or less) on a topic area that interests you. Use the Internet as the main source of research. For some excellent tips on how to get your project started, first read Chapter 14 "Technical Research." Please use the guidelines discussed in Chapter 11 to write your proposal or feasibility study. The topic area should have the following characteristics:

• It solves a practical problem or answers a practical question
• It is narrow in scope
• It is easily researched
• It has a clearly defined audience

Here are some topic suggestions:

Proposal

• Propose a new course or module for your program of study
• Upgrade a school lab, office, or classroom within a reasonable budget (examples: install a Local Area Network (LAN); or upgrade the software; or upgrade the computer equipment etc.)
• Propose a new policy or procedure to improve efficiency at school or work

Feasibility Study

• Compare two or more items to solve the needs of a specific audience (examples: compare three kinds of cellular phones help a student make an informed purchasing decision; compare three kinds of DVD players to help home users choose the one best suited to their needs).
• Analyse the feasibility of something for a specific application (examples: creating a day-care on campus; creating a student-operated writing service agency).

You may create your own topic, but first obtain approval from your instructor.
