Chapter 1 Process in Technical Writing-Internet Exercise
Analyze a Web site to determine if it fulfils the characteristics of technical writing outlined in
Chapter 1. For this exercise, you may examine a Web site of a major corporation, professional society,
small business, or an academic institution. Please complete the following questions about the technical
writing process:
- What is the purpose of the Web site? What response does the author want from the readers?
Please give reasons for your answers.
- Who is the intended audience of the Web site? What assumptions did the author make about
the information needs of the readers? Use the five questions in Chapter 1 "Audience Analysis
Step 1" to help structure your answer.
- Did the author overcome the typical barriers that people face when reading technical
information? Please give reasons for your answers.
